Foods to Maintain the Health of Your Smile
- Posted on: Aug 29 2014
We all know that sugary foods and beverages can inhibit the growth of tooth decay and erode our tooth enamel. Colas and other beverages high in acid are also culprits in tooth decay and should be avoided as often as possible in order to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
However, did you know that there are many foods that you can replace these sugary snacks and sodas with to actually improve the health of your mouth?
One of the first steps that you can take towards a healthier smile is replacing those sodas and acidic beverages with water. By staying hydrated, you not only see benefits to your overall health but also help wash away bacteria and germs from your mouth. By drinking water frequently you can prevent the onset of bad breath and tooth decay.
Additionally, you can replace those sweet beverages or snacks with foods that are high in calcium such as milk, yogurt and cheeses. Calcium not only strengthens your bones but your teeth as well. If you’re not a fan of dairy products, calcium can also be found in foods like broccoli. Other leafy vegetables such as spinach are also great for your teeth, as they contain minerals that can strengthen weak spots in your teeth and make them more resilient to decay.
