It’s sad but true…many people completely avoid dental visits. This may be because they have long-standing fears originating from a traumatizing childhood dental experience or it may be because of a fear of pain or needles. Whatever the reason, if you are one of the fearful, avoiding regular dental visits and cleanings can cause problems…not only with your teeth but with your general health as well. You may, in fact, be setting the stage for periodontal disease or other serious health issues.

sedation dentistryFor our patients in the Ohio Valley, Dr. Wylie offers a way to calm dental fears. It’s called Minimal Sedation Dentistry – a safe and effective breakthrough for the faint of heart which allows you to experience complete relaxation during your dental visit and eliminates the concept of time. We offer two types of sedation:

  1. Oral Sedation is a common and preferred sedation method. You will be given a pill to take, at home, before your appointment, which will relax you, calm you, put you in a “twilight” sedated state and allow you to receive your dental procedures without fear. You won’t be unconscious but will experience a soothing, emotional distance from your procedure.
  2. Nitrous Oxide, also known as “laughing gas,” is a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen that you breath to calm and relax you. This allows you to be awake but anxiety free. Nitrous Oxide is administered with oxygen so it is effective immediately and subsides quickly when your dental treatment is completed.
  • Whichever method you choose, be assured that you will be carefully monitored by Dr. Wylie.
  • You must arrange for transportation to and from your dental visit – which you will not even remember once you are home and “awake.”

Making the initial call to make an appointment may be a big first step for you. Rest easy. It’s our goal to put your mind at ease and make your dental visit anxiety and pain-free.
