2015 Ogden Half Marathon
Congratulations to our staff and friends who participated in the Ogden Half Marathon! We are very proud of you! Lori Kinnick, Candace Kesselring, Jodi Griffith, Marcia Scott, & Allison Harris. This marathon in Ogden, West Virginia was particulary focused on breast cancer awarness. This event was very near and dear to our hearts as our own Marcia Scot is a breast cancer survivor. She shares her story below:
“I share my own story to inspire, motivate or comfort others. When I found out that I had cancer, I decided that I was going to make cancer just a part of my life and not the definition of who I am. I would fight and beat cancer with grace and dignity. At 30 years old I was diagnosed with stage 0 or precancerous breast cancer and was told that there was a 1% chance that it had progressed to stage 1. I had caught it at the earliest stage possible. I underwent my first surgery in October 2009. After the biopsy, I was informed that my cancer was stage 1. After consulting with my Oncologist, Dr. Monga, I was tested for the BRCA gene and tested positive. I was told that I had an 80% chance of having breast cancer in the other breast within the next 3 years. I was also informed of my high risk factors for ovarian cancer. I decided to be aggressive and underwent double mastectomy and complete reconstruction. Best decision I could have made. My surgeons were amazing and did a fantastic job. I had to do 4 months of chemotherapy as well. I continued to work at Wylie Dental Care throughout treatment with the love and support of everyone there. I couldn’t have asked for a better work family during this chapter of my life! Special thanks to Leann, Lori, and Jodi!” -Marcia Scott
